The search for Canada’s favourite amateur classical pianist

CBC Music and ICI Musique are looking for Canada's favourite amateur classical pianist.

Do you play classical piano? Regardless of your age or level, CBC Music and ICI Musique invite you to step out of the practice room and show the rest of Canada what you've got.

Enter Piano Hero for a chance to be named Canada's favourite amateur classical pianist.

The winner will receive a Steinway-designed Boston professional upright piano, including delivery costs, valued at $15,000, courtesy of Steinway Piano Galleries of Canada.

Winning will also include a trip for two to Montreal from April 21 to 24, 2016, to make a professional music video, have a private piano lesson with David Jalbert, attend a concert by l’Orchestre Métropolitain and give a pre-concert solo performance.

To enter, film yourself performing a piece of classical music (in the public domain) and submit your video between Jan. 11 and 21, 2016, here on CBC Music. The public will vote on all videos submitted to determine the 10 finalists and a jury comprising Angela Cheng, Jan Lisiecki and Yannick Nézet-Séguin will select the winner.

To be eligible, you must meet at the following criteria:
You are a Canadian resident (i.e. you were born and currently reside in Canada, or you hold a permanent residency status.)

  • Follow the instructions to upload your video, either by (1) uploading it directly from your device (max 500 MB), or (2) granting access to your YouTube videos.
